Adult Enrichment Centers (AEC) is thrilled to announce the vision for a new 10,000-square-foot School of the Arts in Rock Hill—the first inclusive arts-centered program of its kind in our region. This innovative center will expand opportunities for neurodiverse adults while serving as a hub for creativity, independence, and community connection.

For more than 40 years, AEC has been committed to supporting families of varying abilities and aging through day services, enrichment programs, and caregiver support. The School of the Arts is one of AEC’s signature programs, engaging neurodiverse adults in hands-on, art-based learning that builds life skills, confidence, and pathways to independence. This new facility represents the next bold chapter in that journey.

A Space for Growth and Independence

At the heart of the new School of the Arts will be a DHEC-approved culinary kitchen and training center, where members can learn valuable cooking and nutrition skills in a professional setting. The facility will also include a real-world living lab—a fully furnished mini-apartment where members can practice independent living skills such as safety awareness, laundry, caring for personal space, and even small home improvement projects. These immersive environments will give members the chance to gain confidence and prepare for greater independence in a supportive, hands-on way.

Expanding Arts & Creative Opportunities

Building on the programs our members already love, the new School of the Arts will feature dedicated studios for art, music, maker projects, and dance. A gallery space will showcase member artwork and make it available for purchase, turning creativity into both opportunity and community impact.

Three Acres of Possibility

The new center will sit on three acres of land, opening exciting opportunities for outdoor learning and recreation. Plans include space for physical activity, picnics, gardens, and wellness activities—blending indoor and outdoor programming to create a holistic environment where members can thrive.

A Community Resource Beyond Our Walls

The School of the Arts will not only serve members but also benefit the entire community. On evenings and weekends, the space will be available for outside instructors, community programs, and events, transforming it into a regional hub of creativity, learning, and inclusion.

Looking Ahead

Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026, with an opening planned for late 2026. As the first of its kind in our region, this new School of the Arts will set a powerful precedent for inclusive, arts-based programming that empowers neurodiverse adults and strengthens community.

Together, we are building more than a center—we are building opportunity, independence, and community for generations to come.
